Background
Every single person, no matter where they live, the city or the bush have a point where a turn in the road or a crest of a hill gives them a sense of arrival to their own "patch". And we’re surprised to find when someone else exactly agrees.

I could have done this one to suit a lot of the townships, but rattling off all those names is untidy. If I didn’t mention any particular place so it could be anywhere, it loses strength of the telling. You will read for another song in this collection that Toogoolawah is more about sounds than sights, but for a homecoming it’s the one I settled on my own home town.

Right now, coming over a hill and experiencing the surprise of a fertile farmland instead of plain old scrub is a treat. Maybe in 50 years time, it will be very different. Midway of 2012, coal mining became an issue in the valley and that view reveal could be of small mountains of mine tailings. Yet we'd still have that sense of homecoming.

As the song delevoped over time it became clear the song was writing itself about not being something that was lost, but something that stayed the same in spite of the changes.

Lyrics

SWEET RIDE
Music & Lyrics ©2010 Michael Anthony

no matter how long i've been away
a whole six months or just for a day
wondering how far it is to go
when I round the bend and over that rise
with Anabranch Farm laid out below
its a sweet sweet sight for my tired eyes
with that carpet of green laid out below
its a sweet sight for any tired eyes

I dont need to be in my driveway
I dont need to go through my door
I'm reminded right there
that's what i'm livin here for
I dont need to be in my driveway
I dont need to go through my door
I'm reminded right there
that's what I'm livin here for

Nobody we know
doesn't feel this way
Its just so good
To be able to say

That pattern of lights we greet at night
can gets to raise my heatbeat some
I know its not far and here in my car
gentle twist down the hill I come
with the valley floor spread out below
its a sweet sweet ride for my tired soul
just to cross the cressbrook below
its a sweet ride for any tired soul

I dont need to be in my driveway
I dont need to go through my door
I'm reminded right there
that's what I'm livin here for
I dont need to go through my driveway
I dont need to go be my door
we're reminded then and there
that's what we're livin here for
